Oganesson is a synthetic chemical element; it has symbol Og and atomic number 118. It was first synthesized in 2002 at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna , near Moscow, Russia, by a joint team of Russian and American scientists.

All known oganesson isotopes have even shorter half-lives in the millisecond range and no compounds are known yet, [27] although some have been predicted theoretically. It is expected to be even more reactive than radon, more like a normal element than a noble gas in its chemistry.
