All other characters who know about the claim assume that Sam, though kindhearted, is indeed the Devil's son. During season 2, Sam discovers an escaped soul, Alan, that can't be sent back to hell because he claims he escaped the Devil. Sam continues throughout the season hunting down Alan, trying to get information on how to escape his contract.
