Prestcold, along with other parts of Pressed Steel, was absorbed into BMC in 1966 which became part of British Leyland in 1969. Prestcold became part of Leyland Special Products after the Ryder Report of 1975. This once again put it back in the same ownership as the former Morris Motors sites adjacent to the Cowley factory.
The brand was originally created for a line of refrigerators. Other products sold under the Coldspot brand included freezers, dehumidifiers, and window air conditioning units. Many of these products were manufactured for Sears by Seeger Refrigeration, which was purchased by Sunbeam, giving the new name Seeger-Sunbeam.
