Kettleman City is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kings County, California, United States. Kettleman City is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of Hanford , [ 4 ] 54 miles (88 km) south of Fresno , at an elevation of 253 feet (77 m), [ 2 ] and sits only about 1/2 mile north of the 36th parallel north latitude.

The Kettleman North Dome Oil Field is a large oil and gas field in Kings and Fresno counties, California. Discovered in 1928, it is the fifteenth largest field in the state by total ultimate oil recovery, and of the top twenty oil fields, it is the closest to exhaustion, with less than one-half of one percent of its original oil remaining in place.
It was at that time the only building on that side of the lake and was located on the lakeshore 3 miles (4.8 km) southwest of the modern Kettleman City. Established in 1870 by the meat market and cattle business of Cox and Clark as a trading-post for the Indians it also served as a landing place for steamboats on the west side of the lake. [1]
