Elections to Colchester Borough Council took place on 5 May 2022. [1] [2] Eighteen members of the council (one-third of the whole) were elected: one from 16 of the 17 wards, and two councillors from New Town & Christ Church ward, following the death of incumbent councillor Nick Cope (Liberal Democrat), [3] elected in 2019 and due to serve until 2023.
The incumbent mayor of Colchester - from late May 2014 - is Cllr Lesley Scott-Boutell (Liberal Democrats) Colchester's mayor from October 2020 was Councillor Robert Davison, a Conservative . Like his predecessor Cllr Nick Cope, Cllr Davidson held office for 18 months rather than the traditional year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

There were 17 of the 51 seats on the council up for election, being the usual third of the council, with one seat available for each ward.
This set of seats were last up for election at the 2021 election. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City Council election (then Borough) scheduled for 2020 was postponed one year to 2021. This resulted in the terms of councillors elected at the 2021 election being truncated to 3-years rather than the usual 4-years.
