The Adjutant General's Corps, formerly the Adjutant General's Department, is a branch of the United States Army first established in 1775. This branch provides personnel service support by manning the force, providing human resources services, coordinating personnel support, Army band operations, and recruiting and retention.
With that appointment, the second oldest existing branch of the Army was born. On 14 December 1872, the Adjutant General's Department adopted the old topographic engineer shield as its own branch insignia. The shield symbolized the Adjutant General's role of speaking "for the commander".

The office of the Adjutant General deals with a wide spectrum of issues relating to Army, which includes manpower planning, human resource policy, recruitment, discipline, matters relating to Judge Advocate General's Department, Provost Marshal Directorate (Corps of Military Police), missing defence personnel, service matters relating to personnel and welfare of serving soldiers.
The ETS Branch has the responsibilities of the former Royal Army Educational Corps, it is an all officer branch with around 400 serving members. In 2006 the former RAEC cap badge of a 'fluted flambeau with five flames, with crown and scroll' was reintroduced, with 'ETS' replacing 'R.A.E.C.' on the scroll.
