The Care Inspectorate (formally known as Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland) (Scottish Gaelic: Coimisean a’ Chùraim) is a scrutiny body which supports improvement. They look at the quality of care in Scotland to ensure it meets high standards.
It was established as an inspectorate in April 2005 by the Scottish Government to scrutinise all aspects of social services provided by Scottish local authorities. [1] The SWIA was chaired by Professor Alexis Jay. [2] It was created to deliver a more systematic approach to the inspection of social work services.
