Shawnee Lake in 1966. Shawnee State Park is a 3,983-acre (1,612 ha) Pennsylvania state park in Juniata and Napier Townships, Bedford County, Pennsylvania in the United States. Shawnee Lake, a 451-acre (183 ha) warm water reservoir, is at the center of the park as its main attraction.
Visitors to Promised Land State Park who wish to stay overnight have a choice of staying in one of four campgrounds or in rustic cabins that were built during the Great Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps. [2] Lower Lake Campground is on Lower Lake. It opens for the season in mid-April and closes in mid-December.
There are two campgrounds at Kettle Creek State Park. One lacks water spigots and flush toilets. The Lower Campground has 44 sites all with electric hook-ups. The Upper Campground was 27 sites with 12 electric hook-ups. [3] The picnic area has 50 picnic tables with charcoal grills and water spigots. Some picnic tables are sunny and some are shaded.
Five sites are available for organized group tenting of 20-40 people each. A 140-site camping area is available with hand-operated water pumps, flush toilets, and a dump station for trailers. There are several pet friendly sites. There is a pavilion and a separate picnic area, sandbeach, volleyball net as well as swimming in the Tobyhanna Lake. [6]
The camp first opened in 1954 on the site of the former Camp Windsor; it has also been known as Camp B'nai B'rith (CBB) and B'nai B'rith Perlman Camp (BBPC). Before being acquired by B'nai B'rith January 1954, the 365-acre (1.48 km 2) campground with a 13-acre (53,000 m 2) lake was known as Camp Windsor.
