In December 2013, Toonami aired various films for the whole month similar to A Month of Miyazaki which aired years prior. The programming was called "Toonami Month of Movies". The first film included in the lineup was Akira, which marked the first R-rated film to be aired on Toonami. All of the films shown were new for the network. [40]
