Marlin Firearms is an American manufacturer of semi-automatic, lever-action and bolt-action rifles. In the past the company (based in Madison, North Carolina and formerly based in North Haven, Connecticut) made shotguns, derringers, and revolvers. Marlin owned the firearm manufacturer H&R Firearms.
John Mahlon Marlin (May 6, 1836 – July 1, 1901) was an American firearms manufacturer and inventor. Marlin was born in Boston Neck , near Windsor Locks , Hartford County, Connecticut , as the son of Mahlon Marlin and Jennette Bradford.
A company associate stole the firm's operating capital and disappeared. During 1880–1881, Merwin and Hulbert was in receivership, but it was able to recover. With the popularity of magnum revolver cartridges in the 1960s, in 1969 Marlin produced a short-action Model 1894 that was designed for modern high-pressure .44 Magnum cartridges. Marlin had briefly manufactured its Model 336 chambered for the .44 magnum cartridge. However, after a few years of development Marlin reintroduced the model 1894. [2]
The current variation gold trigger lever-action.22 Caliber Golden 39A is produced by the Marlin Firearms Co. of New Haven, Connecticut. The Golden 39A was last constructed in Remington’s Marlin factory in Ilion, NY. Production ended with the bankruptcy and closing of the Remington Marlin factory closing and sale to Ruger in September, 2020.
