Middleton High School is a public secondary school located in the city of Middleton, Wisconsin.It was established in 1879. Part of the Middleton-Cross Plains School District, the school serves more than 2,000 students in grades 9 to 12 from the Middleton and Cross Plains areas.
A historical marker recounts the school's history. [3] It was an all-black school for nearly 40 years and remains predominantly black along with its surrounding neighborhood. It became a junior high school in 1971. Middleton High School reopened in a new location in 2002 with community support.
The school closed as it gave way to a more modern high school West Ashley High School. The former school was located West of the Ashley in Charleston, S.C. at 1776 William Kennerty Dr. just off SC Hwy 61. The school opened in 1970 and closed its doors as a high school in 2000. Mr. Rufus German was Middleton's principal.
The district chose the 60-acre (240,000 m 2) site for the new high school on the southeast corner of Willis and Emmett Roads and purchased it at $10,000 per acre, thus making the entire purchase cost $600,000. In fall of 2011 classes began at the newly constructed 254,000-square-foot (23,600 m 2), two-story high school.
In 2021, in a report by U.S. News & World Report, Middleton High School was named as the best high school in Dane County and it was also named 11th best high school out of around 540 in the state of Wisconsin.
