The aviary opened in 2005 and covers an area of 21,761 m 2 (234,230 sq ft) with a total volume of 375,372 m 3 (13,256,100 cu ft). It is home to around 3,000 individual birds from 200 species.
The bird park comprises a large number of internal and external aviaries as well as outdoor enclosures. In addition, the visitor can meet birds in an environment modelled on their natural habitat with no artificial barriers both in a free flight aviary with sand dunes and a wave machine, as well as in numerous buildings, such as the Jungle Hall.
