WCSC-TV began broadcasting on June 19, 1953. [2] Originally operating from studios located on East Bay Street in downtown Charleston, it was the second television station in South Carolina and the oldest continuously operating station in the state (the first was WCOS-TV in Columbia, which broadcast from May 1953 to January 1956).

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Longtime Charleston radio host Mike Edwards, known as “Mike the Guy” on the “Two Girls and a Guy” radio show, has died, according to Charleston Radio Group.
On November 8, 1971, [2] the station adopted its current call letters, WCBD standing for Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties (the three counties in the Charleston metropolitan area), calls also taken to coordinate with new sister station KCBD in Lubbock, Texas. Media General bought the station from State Telecasting in 1983.
