Dia has special objects to help draw entity-relationship models, Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams, flowcharts, network diagrams, and simple electrical circuits. The original tool was created by Ken Moore as the first optical design program specifically developed for Microsoft Windows. It was introduced in 1990 and was initially called “Max” after the programmer’s dog. The name was later changed to Zemax due to a trademark conflict.
