Malta (/ ˈ m ɔː l t ə / ⓘ MAWL-tə) is a city in, and the county seat of, Phillips County, Montana, United States, [3] located at the intersection of U.S. Routes 2 and 191. The population was 1,860 at the 2020 census .
Phillips County is a county in the U.S. state of Montana. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,217. [1] Its county seat is Malta. [2] Before February 5, 1915, Phillips County was part of Blaine County, and before 1912 both were part of Chouteau County. [3] It was named for rancher and state senator Benjamin D. Phillips.
East Malta Colony is a Hutterite community [3] and census-designated place (CDP) in Phillips County, Montana, United States. It is in the eastern part of the county, 14 miles (23 km) by road east of Malta, the county seat. It sits on high ground just west of Beaver Creek, a north-flowing tributary of the Milk River.
The Tumas Group is a real estate and development company in Malta, founded in the 1970s by Tumas Fenech (died 1 February 1999). The group is headed by Raymond (Ray) Fenech who is implicated in assisting his nephew and former Group CEO, Yorgen Fenech, escape Malta shortly before his arrest for murder.

Town mayor, James Lyndes, started a real estate business with C. M. Patterson and opened a law office. He served as the first County Attorney and Hysham's first Mayor . Lyndes' wife Mary Alice served as chairman of the school board and for the first few years, the high school was held above the Lyndes and Patterson store.
