Hecuba (Ancient Greek: Ἑκάβη, Hekabē) is a tragedy by Euripides, written c. 424 BC. It takes place after the Trojan War but before the Greeks have departed Troy (roughly the same time as The Trojan Women , another play by Euripides).
Hecuba also takes place just after the fall of Troy. Polydorus, the youngest son of Priam and Hecuba, is sent to King Polymestor for safekeeping, but when Troy falls, Polymestor murders Polydorus. Hecuba learns of this, and when Polymestor comes to the fallen city, Hecuba, by trickery, blinds him and kills his two sons. [18]
The women discuss their fates and the fates of others in Troy as they are divided up as the spoils of war. The action of the Hecuba follows this and shows Hecuba as a captive of the Greeks on their voyage home from Troy. [10] In the Metamorphoses Ovid utilizes both of Hecuba's tragic appearances and combines them into one narrative. [11]
The Trojan Women (Ancient Greek: Τρῳάδες, romanized: Trōiades, lit."The Female Trojans") is a tragedy by the Greek playwright Euripides, produced in 415 BCE.Also translated as The Women of Troy, or as its transliterated Greek title Troades, The Trojan Women presents commentary on the costs of war through the lens of women and children. [1]
Hecuba awakens as the castaways rehearse at night, taking over the production. When help arrives Hecuba departs alone, leaving behind all the others. The show-biz producer’s new plan, announced on the castaways’ radio, is to take full credit for his latest brilliant idea: the musical version of Hamlet he intends to stage as his next project.
