The first post office at White Cloud was established in July, 1855. [6] In 1857, the town site was purchased by John Utt and Enoch Spaulding, two land promoters from Oregon, Missouri, who then sold lots in the town. White Cloud prospered by taking advantage of steamboat traffic on the nearby Missouri River. [7]
The White Cloud Historic District is a 41.3 acres (16.7 ha) historic district in White Cloud, Kansas which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. It is roughly bounded by Poplar, 6th, Chesnut Sts. and K-7 and included 67 contributing buildings and a contributing site, as well as 15 non-contributing buildings and a non-contributing site.
Several United States post offices are individually notable and have operated under the authority of the United States Post Office Department (1792–1971) or the United States Postal Service (since 1971).
The tribe also owns and operates Casino White Cloud and a service station, and employs 186 people. As a sovereign nation the reservation has its own police and fire department, tribal court, health clinic, community health representatives, a senior citizen center, and meal site for seniors with a delivery program.
