The Iran–Turkmenistan Friendship Dam is on the river. [6] Salma Dam, a hydroelectric and irrigation dam project, is located on the Hari Rud in Chishti Sharif District of Herat Province in western Afghanistan. The average annual discharge of the Hari Rud is about 55 m3/s, but during a spring flood in 1939 the discharge went up to 1090 m3/s. [7]

The Salma Dam, [1] [2] officially named Afghan-India Friendship Dam, [3] is an embankment dam located on the Hari River in Chishti Sharif District of Herat Province in western Afghanistan. It has a hydroelectric power station that produces 42 MW of electricity in addition to providing irrigation for 750 km 2 (290 sq mi) of farmland. [4]
