Fayoum University (FU) (Arabic: جامعة الفيوم, Jame'at al-fayoum) is a public university located in the Egyptian city of Faiyum in northern Egypt. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] From 1976 to 2005, Fayoum University was a public institution within the University of Cairo . [ 3 ]
Archaeological evidence has found occupations around the Faiyum dating back to at least the Epipalaeolithic.Middle Holocene occupations of the area are most widely studied on the north shore of Lake Moeris, where Gertrude Caton Thompson and Elinor Wight Gardner did a number of excavations of Epipalaeolithic and Neolithic sites, as well as a general survey of the area. The Fayyum is a region and an important fossil Lagerstätte in northern Egypt.The region comprises the Fayyum Basin, which is intensively used for agriculture, and adjoining areas; the important areas of discovery are mostly north and west of Lake Qarun.
The village is considered new as it was created in the 1960s by two famous Egyptian poets. [3] [4] In the 1980s, Evelyne Porret, a Swiss tourist and later potter fell in love with Egypt and the touristic village, and established a pottery school in it that played a large role in preserving Fayoum's Ancient Egyptian pottery culture.
