It sat, rusting, in shallow water [2] on the reef until 1987 when the town of Berwick, Louisiana paid to have it moved about 25 miles (40 km) upriver to a park in the town on the Atchafalaya River. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 as Southwest Reef Lighthouse .

Berwick High School, abbreviated BHS, is a high school in Berwick, Louisiana, United States.It is a part of the St. Mary Parish School Board.. During the academic years of 2007, 2008, and 2013, U.S. News & World Report recognized Berwick High School as a bronze medal school, ranking it as one of the best high schools in the United States in an annual report.
The Berwick Bay Bridge is a vertical lift bridge in the U.S. state of Louisiana which carries the BNSF Railway over the Atchafalaya River between Berwick and Morgan City. [2] The bridge is primarily used for freight, but Amtrak runs the Sunset Limited three times weekly per direction over the line.
This stretch of water lends its name to Vessel Traffic Service Berwick Bay which manages the waters south of 29°45' N., west of 91°10' W., north of 29°37' N., and east of 91°18' W.
