Steed, finding that Peel is gone, heads to the Bureau also. A confrontation ensues, leading to Steed identifying Pemberton as having a crippling fear of the dark. Steed breaks the lights, and Voss and Pemberton are incapacitated in the subsequent fight. Returning to Mrs Peel's home, Steed and Peel celebrate their victory.
Emma Peel is a fictional character played by Diana Rigg in the British 1960s adventure television series The Avengers, and by Uma Thurman in the 1998 film version. She was born Emma Knight , the daughter of an industrialist, Sir John Knight.
Steed and Mrs Peel separate and investigate the base further. Mrs Peel discovers the body of the milkman on his float just as a deafening shrill noise and quake shakes through the base. When the noise eventually stops, Steed returns to the lounge to get himself a drink at the bar, whereupon he discovers the frozen fish and stopped clock.
Steed is welcomed by the group and overhears that the Club is planning a coup which will have the "whole country up in arms". The following day, Steed and Peel attend the next event, and spot a cache of explosives. Steed questions a drunk girl and deduces that the Club intend to blow up Culverston House, where three foreign leaders are staying.
Steed discovers Hemming's body and is held by Benson at gunpoint. Benson informs him that his false references make him trustworthy. Benson sends Steed to butler for Miles, whilst Miles is romancing Mrs Peel. As the three officers attend a private conference, Steed and their other butlers get instructions to pour wine over their masters.
As Steed and Peel investigate, they discover all the astronomers had been looking directly at the planet before they were found dead, which members say heralds an invasion by the Venusians. Steed and Peel soon uncover a scheme featuring lasers, a treacherous eye surgeon Dr. Primble, and a quest to launch a satellite to monitor Venus.
Steed escapes and enters the warehouse room in which the Cybernaut has cornered Mrs Peel, and tells Mrs Peel to throw him the pen. Another Cybernaut (the first with a "brain of its own") arrives with Armstrong. Steed plants the pen on the second Cybernaut and they attack each other and accidentally kill Armstrong as he attempts to stop his robots.
