Early American molded glass. Early American molded glass refers to glass functional and decorative objects, such as bottles and dishware, that were manufactured in the United States in the 19th century. The objects were produced by blowing molten glass into a mold, thereby causing the glass to assume the shape and pattern design of the mold.
The original factory was in an old glass factory in Martins Ferry, Ohio, in 1905. [1] The factory at one time was owned by the former West Virginia Glass Company. [2] At first they painted glass blanks from other glass makers, but started making their own glass when they became unable to buy the materials they needed. [2]
Firebirds optioned with T-tops received new acrylic plastic tops made by Leximar for GM. The new tops were lighter in weight and tinted darker, but were more dome shaped and aged rapidly.
