Apologies for the necro-tastic reply 6 years later.. But, if anyone else finds this thread by way of a google search like I did, I put together a Google Doc of the Vicious Mockery 1-4 posts by u/spbslinky, plus a bunch from the comments, a variety of searches on the internet, a few youtube videos, and my own imagination..
I'm currently working on building a bard for a group I get together with every few weeks. Obviously, I want to make use of Vicious Mockery as much as possible. Unfortunately, I'm very bad at coming up with witty one-liners and insults. Long story short, I need a bunch of them to make sure I don't repeat too often.
Vicious mockery is decent but not nearly as good imo. Its less likely to succeed because it's wis instead of int (int saves are often a character's weakest), and it only affects one attack roll. That's still a solid cantrip of course, but not something you would really go to as anything except a last resort or an efficiency-oriented move for a ...
Monstrous Menagerie II: Hordes & Heroes has a launch date! Mark your calendars for November 12th, 2024. 300+ more monsters for your D&D 2024, or Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition games, plus new horde rules and rules for heroic monsters who level up alongside you--whether they be allies, companions, or foes!
Blister your opponents' ears and infuriate their minds with these cracking insult lines for vicious mockery. Here's the video voice acting these. General They say laughter is the best medicine. Your face must be curing the world. Your roar didn’t scare me. The stench of your breath did though. Ugly. Putrid. Vile.
Vicious Mockery is a spell. It's a cantrip, and has to be cast. It the target fails a Wisdom saving throw, it deals 1d4 Psychic damage (more at higher character levels) and imposes disadvantage on the target's next attack before the end of his next round. Even if Vicious Mockery it's a spell, it does not require and attack roll.
Vicious Mockery does 1d4 damage, and is save for none. Eldritch Blast and Firebolt deal 1d10 damage and are spell attacks, so you have a higher chance of hitting with them, and they deal better damage. Is there any compelling reason to take Vicious Mockery, except the cool factor of hurting someone with sick burns?
Hound of Ill Omen gives them Disadvantage on the Spell Save for Vicious Mockery. We also pick up Meta Magic Adept for more Sorc Points. Now we can Quickened & Twin Vicious Mockery. We are really doing well now lol Levels 11 - 16, we pick back up with Cleric and get those Blessed Strikes, thats an additional D8 per Vicious Mockery.
With vicious mockery, my bard yells out "with how fast your friends died, you might as well give up before my friend herepointing to the loxodon crushes you up into a fine powder and snorts you between pints of ale later"
Need undead-specific Vicious Mockeries We are currently in an undead-heavy campaign and I'm playing an eladrin glamour bard. Thing is, I'm awful at improv insulting unless it's a low hanging fruit.
