While looking for a new KlipperScreen device I found this guide on how to use any Android device with an X Server app to use as a KlipperScreen output device. It works amazingly well! pic. edit: fixed pic link. Reduce, reuse, repurpose. Great way to recycle an old cell phone and not have to buy a touchscreen. Nice.

Disable "Chat Features" on your old phone. I just had the same problem as many others. The temporary number first assigned to my new Mint account stayed active for SMS and MMS even after my number was ported. The fix was going into Messages, clicking the Google icon, selecting Message Settings, then Chat Features.

  6. Has anyone thought about using an old mobile phone as a server...

Yup, used an old android box to serve a GPS synced time server over IP for a datacenter. You should be able to do basic media serving via an app with no special tweaking required - Bubble uPnP will act as a DLNA server. Many Sony phones have DLNA sharing built in too. AFAIK Samsung too.

Either sell, donate, or trash your old items. If they work, wipe clean and try to sell, donate if they don't/won't sell. Recycle broken/too old to function items because electronics (and esp their batteries) should not end up in landfills if it's avoidable. They're not any better off in the graveyard of your closet than in the trash.

Arduino and Old Cell Phone. I have an interest in interfacing Arduino with electronics I no longer have a need for. So, tonight I decided to take apart a 10 year old flip phone. I dug it out and to my surprise it still worked. Anyway, I set about trying to get the keypad circuit board out.

  11. Old cell phone as GPS tracker connected to the battery?

    www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/tb8j9b/old_cell_phone_as_gps_tracker...

When your phone is giving you a (presumably) more accurate result than a GPS tracker, it's because it's triangulating cell towers and wifi access points and all kinds of shit that eats battery quickly when in constant use. Especially on an old phone with an old battery. I doubt that an old phone could give you more than 45mins - 1hr of active ...
