Good 2D color sonar with Chirp is inexpensive today, less then 20 years ago. High end sonar in expensive and not needed for recreational bass anglers.

These topo maps were map prior to reservoir or man made impoundment were constructed. Most topo maps are 5’ elevation increments a few were 2’ elevation. What was important these topo maps included roads, bridges, rivers, streams, creeks, groves of trees, farms, fences, buildings everything within the map boundary.

What Bluebasser said is true, and tritonguy is correct that some of the coves can get pretty choked with weeds. I recommend fishing this lake during the week if you want to avoid the crowds.

I fished the upper lake at Twin Lakes late yesterday evening and caught six 1 to 3 pounders in less than an hour. I will definitely try the lower lake sometime this week and let you know what I find. Lake Frances has also been producing some small but feisty bass. The property is in foreclosure so you will have to access the lake from Mason Road.

The sample legend shows the map scale is 1:50,000 and that 1 inch = 0.8 miles. The map scale means that anything on the map equals 50,000 of those things in real life (IRL). A trail that is one french-fry long on the map will be 50,000 french-fries long to hike. The legend also shows that 1 inch on the map equals 0.8 miles on the ground.
