A (Very) Rough Guide To Reggae Pressings: 1960s, Jamaican good, UK not as good. In the 1960s Jamaican 7" pressings were cut direct from tape and pressed on decent vinyl, UK pressings were often taken from a dub of the Jamaican 7" losing a whole layer of fidelity and pressed at the cheapest, but still decent UK plants.
Following are some simple tweaks I've done to get great sound from my Heresys: 1.) RECAP THE CROSSOVERS. My speakers were made in 1986, and when I acquired them 2 years ago they were painfully shrill to listen to. They sounded terrible. After 20+ years the original caps had drifted from spec.
The sand/plaster is more optional however. The lower side of the horn can be stiffened by placing a 2x4 on edge across the middle, inside the cabinet, and fiberglass over this. The PS-21 is really three power supplies on one board. On each side is a separate low voltage supply which can be configured at 6.3, 12, or 12.6VDC operation for tube heaters, and in the centre is a high voltage (B+) supply capable of delivering up to 300VDC depending on your requirements.
The 1st Japan version or the Pro use are very nice sounding LP, dead quite vinyl, the highs are a little bit to present, but in overall 2 very nice sounding LP. Meddle: 1st UK pressing is the best version I've ever heard. WYWH: The UK Henry Moss cutting are very warm, whatever the matrix number.
Los Angeles, CA. Of the core six Doors records, I only have original-ish pressings of the middle three (Waiting For The Sun, The Soft Parade, Morrison Hotel). My Soft Parade pressing actually sounds quite good: The Doors – The Soft Parade (1970, Terre Haute Pressing, Gatefold, Vinyl) Chrome_Head,Jun 9, 2021. #5.
