Charles H. Burwell was born in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1838.He moved to Minnesota in 1874 after his first wife died having her second child. He married Mary Carey Durham in 1876 and had 2 children by the names of Louise and Lauring, and the family of 6 took up residence in the Minnetonka Hotel until his house was built in 1883.

Homestead Township is a township in Otter Tail County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 371 at the 2000 census. The population was 371 at the 2000 census. Homestead Township was organized in 1880, and named for the pioneer homestead farms within its borders.
U.S. Highway 10 (US 10) is a major divided highway for almost all of its length in the U.S. state of Minnesota.The route runs through the central portion of the state, following generally the alignment of the former Northern Pacific Railway (now BNSF Railway) and connects the cities of Moorhead, Detroit Lakes, Wadena, Little Falls, St. Cloud, Anoka, Saint Paul, and Cottage Grove.
The park area was originally homesteaded by the Larson Family in 1882. A series of water- and wind-powered mills were soon built in the area. Eventually a steam-powered mill replaced the older technology. The state bought the area in 1937 and rebuilt the steam engine in 1958.
The building, built in 1898, and owned by the City of Chanhassen recently is occupied by the Chanhassen Historical Society for use as a museum. Before that the building has housed the Chanhassen Chamber of Commerce, a library, antique store and book store in addition to being a township governmental building. [64] [65]
