In 2006, TVE selected both the artist and song that would compete at the Eurovision Song Contest via an internal selection. In 2007, RTVE organised a national final featuring a competition among several artists and songs to select both the artist and song that would represent Spain, a procedure which was continued for its 2008 entry.
