In the season four episode "The Analyst" (sometimes referred to as "Maude Bares Her Soul"), Arthur as Maude, speaking to an unseen psychiatrist, was the sole actor on screen for the entire episode. [1] The show's theme song, "And Then There's Maude", was written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman and Dave Grusin, and performed by Donny Hathaway.
Maude is a television series created as the first spin-off of All in the Family featuring Maude Findlay , Edith Bunker's cousin, who appeared in two episodes of the latter series' second season. The first season of Maude was previously released on DVD by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment .
Maude cared for Edith, but disliked her husband, Archie Bunker. Archie and Maude were known for getting on each other's nerves, especially since she was a liberal and Archie was a conservative. Because she was a liberal, Maude was also an ally of Edith's daughter Gloria (Sally Struthers) and her husband Mike .
In the episode, Bill Macy played Maude's fourth husband, Walter; it was a role he reprised for the weekly series that fall. Marcia Rodd, the actress who played Carol in the pilot episode, was replaced by Adrienne Barbeau in Maude. Rodd would make an appearance on the actual show in the Season 6 episode, "Walter's Temptation"
