Rufford Abbey is a country estate in Rufford, Nottinghamshire, England, two miles (4 km) south of Ollerton. Originally a Cistercian abbey , it was converted to a country house in the 16th century after King Henry VIII 's dissolution of the monasteries .
Rufford Lane is a link between the A614 and A616 main roads. Due to through-road closure, in early 2024 the BBC reported increased traffic levels and dangerous driving with vehicles short-cutting away from the main 'A' roads, using instead Station Road, in nearby Ollerton.
The coal mines were at Clipstone (coal won 1922), Ollerton (1925), Blidworth (1926), Bilsthorpe (1927) and Thoresby near Edwinstowe (1928). The principal residence was Rufford Abbey, near Ollerton. [2] In 1847 Augustus William Lumley-Savile matriculated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. On 23 November 1849 he became a cornet in a cavalry regiment, the 2nd Regiment of Life Guards. [3] In 1881 by royal licence he dropped the name of Lumley.
