Gerard Davison (c. September 1967 – 5 May 2015) was a Northern Irish militant who was a commander [1] of the Provisional IRA.He was shot and killed on 5 May 2015. [2] One of the first operations he was involved in was shooting dead of IPLO Belfast Brigade commander Sammy Ward during the same Night of the Long Knives in Belfast.
Hughes joined the Irish Republican Army in 1969, sided with the Provisional faction in the split of 1969–70, and was "on the run" in Belfast by 1970. From 1970 to 1972 Hughes was involved in a number of attacks on British soldiers and bank robberies to raise funds for the republican movement.
