Following its independence, in 1972, the Bangladesh Boy Scout Association was officially formed as successor of the Pakistan Boy Scouts Association. Bangladesh became an independent member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1974. [1] The organization changed its name to "Bangladesh Scouts" in 1978.

The girls-only organization became a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1973 [1] [2] and was incorporated on 3 October 1973 [3] by section 2 of the Bangladesh Girl Guides Association Act, 1973 (No XXXI), and that Act makes further provision in relation to the association. The Asia-Pacific Scout Region has witnessed the births and rebirths of national Scout organizations since the region was founded in 1969.
