In the New Testament, Salome was a follower of Jesus who appears briefly in the canonical gospels and in apocryphal writings.

The name Salome occurs only twice in the New Testament, both times in the Gospel of Mark (verses 15:40 and 16:1). [6] [52] Because Mark 15:40–41 has "Salome" in place of "the mother of the sons of Zebedee" appearing in the parallel passage, Matthew 27:55–56, Salome is often identified as "the mother of the sons of Zebedee".
