The Mazda Y6 engine (called 1.6 MZ-CD or 1.6 CiTD) is a rebadged PSA DV6 engine, produced in the PSA engine plant in Trémery and the Ford engine plant in Dagenham. This 1.6 L (1,560 cc) DOHC 16-valve turbo diesel engine has a bore and stroke of 75 mm × 88.3 mm (2.95 in × 3.48 in), and a compression ratio of 18.3:1.
Mazda's strength since the 1960s has been in its line of Inline-4 engines. Beginning with a tiny 358 cc kei car engine, one of the smallest ever made, Mazda continues to this day to be a leading developer of this type of engine. The engine was a two-stroke, water-cooled straight-twin engine used in the Mazda Chantez and Mazda Porter kei car and truck unique to Japan from 1972 until 1976. The displacement is 359 cc (21.9 cu in), producing 24.3 kW (33 PS) and 39.2 N⋅m (29 lb⋅ft) of torque.
However, the 1982 Mazda B2200 was available with the S2, a Perkins-built 4.135, 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine, producing 59 hp (44 kW) at 4000 rpm. This diesel engine was also available for the 1983 and 1984 Ford Ranger; for the 1985 to 1987 Ford Rangers it was replaced with the 2.3-liter 4D55T turbo diesel. [28]
The MZR generation includes gasoline and diesel powered engines ranging in displacements from 1.3 L to 2.5 L. All gasoline-powered MZR engines feature an all-aluminum block construction with iron cylinder liners. The diesel MZR-CD engines use a cast-iron block (virtually identical to the Mazda F engine) and an aluminum cylinder head.
The 4JK1-TCX is an in line direct injection electronic common rail diesel engine with a variable geometry system (VGS) turbocharger and a compression ratio originally at 18.1:1. It was used in the Isuzu D-Max LT 4X4 model, produced in Thailand and Australia, as well as in the related Holden Rodeo and first-generation Chevrolet Colorado.

In July 2022, Mazda introduced two diesel engine options, consisting of the e-Skyactiv D 3.3L diesel mild hybrid with two different tunings labeled as the 200 and 254, producing 147 kW (197 hp; 200 PS) and 187 kW (251 hp; 254 PS), respectively. In this market, the CX-60 is available in four specifications: Prime, Exclusive, Takumi and Homura.
