Cocobolo is a tropical hardwood of Central American trees [1] belonging to the genus Dalbergia. Only the heartwood of cocobolo is used; it is usually orange or reddish-brown, often with darker irregular traces weaving through the wood. The heartwood changes color after being cut and can be polished to a lustrous, glassy finish.
It contains ripe wood in the outer crust. The colour of this ripened wood is dark brown. It is strong, durable and fibrous. Palm is used for furniture, roof covering, rafters and joists. Pine: Pinus spp. Pine wood is hard and tough except white pine which is soft. It decays easily if it comes into contact with soil. It is heavy and coarse grained.
It can grow to heights of 180 feet (55 m) with typical trunk diameters ranging from 36 to 48 inches (910 to 1,220 mm). Anigre has a medium texture with closed pores similar to maple. Growth rings aren't always well-defined, and the wood can be rather plain-looking; though certain figure is occasionally present, such as curly or mottled grain.
The genus is native to tropical Africa and Madagascar. All species grow to around 30–35m tall, rarely 45m, with a trunk over 1m diameter, often buttressed at the base. The leaves are pinnate, with 4-6 pairs of leaflets, the terminal leaflet absent; each leaflet is 10–15 cm long abruptly rounded toward the apex but often with an acuminate tip.
