Le Cheminant Watch Company is a brand that dates back to the first half of the 19th century. Originally a jeweller, it has since become principally a watch maker and, in the early 20th century, supplied chronometers and deck watches to the Royal Navy.
The watch was an 18-size, full plate design. In 1869, the National Watch Company won "Best Watches, Illinois Manufacture" at the 17th Annual Illinois State Fair, for which it won a silver medal. [3] The company officially changed its name to the Elgin National Watch Company in 1874, as the Elgin name had come into common usage for their watches.
H. Samuel was bought by Ratner's Jewellers in 1986; after that brand's spectacular fall from grace in 1992, the Ratner Group rebranded as the Signet Group, and existing Ratner's stores were rebranded with the H.
