The Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers, more commonly known as the Royal Miniature Society (RMS), is an art society founded in 1895 dedicated to upholding and continuing the tradition of miniature painting and sculpture, [1] generally meaning the painted portrait miniature, a particular English tradition.
Miniature art includes paintings, engravings and sculptures that are very small; it has a long history that dates back to prehistory. The portrait miniature is the most common form in recent centuries, and from ancient times, engraved gems , often used as impression seals , and cylinder seals in various materials were very important.
The new location at 2 Columbus Circle, with more than 54,000 square feet (5,000 m 2), more than tripled the size of the museum's former space.It includes four floors of exhibition galleries for works by established and emerging artists; a 150-seat auditorium in which the museum plans to feature lectures, films, and performances; and a restaurant.
David Cornell is an English sculptor, coin designer and painter.. Born in London in 1935, [1] Cornell studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts between 1950 and 1956 studying under Roger Hilton; [2] the Harrow School of Art from 1965 to 1966; and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts [3] in 1968, studying anatomy under Robert Beverley Hale.
