Robert Hayden (August 4, 1913 – February 25, 1980) was an American poet, essayist, and educator. He served as Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress from 1976 to 1978, a role today known as US Poet Laureate. [ 1 ]
Hayden was the daughter of Los Angeles Times reporter John Hayden and his wife (née Bussens). An aunt was Phyllis McGinley Hayden. She was a long-time resident of New York City. [citation needed] She was noticed as a photo model at age 19 when featured in the December 1949 issue of Glamorous Models magazine.
