The novel was made into a movie in 1987 by Tissa Abeysekera. [4] Viragaya is considered one of the best novels of the writer. It exhibits the influences of Existentialism on Wickramasinghe specially through the character of Lokusuriya, the retired postmaster. Sarojini, Menaka, Bathee, Siridasa are the other prominent characters in the novel.

Gamperaliya (The Transformation of a Village) is a novel written by Sri Lankan writer Martin Wickremasinghe [2] and first published in 1944. Wickremasinghe subsequently wrote Kaliyugaya and Yuganthaya, as a trilogy encompassing three generation of the same family and the changing society, culture and economic environment of Sri Lanka between the early and mid 20th century.

Daya Dissanayake Author and Poet. Daya Dissanayake (born 8 March 1947) is a bilingual Sri Lankan novelist, poet and blogger. His work spans a critical study of king Ashoka, nine novels in English, six novels in Sinhala and a collection of poems, and numerous articles in newspapers, journals and magazines.
K. Jayatilake was one of Sri Lanka's topmost creative writers of the modern period of Sinhala literature. Using his close observations of village life, Jayatilake was a pioneer in the Sinhalese realistic novel. His first creative work, Punaruppattiya, a collection of short stories published in 1955, was well received.
None of Sinhala novels of that period had been as successful as Jayatissa and Rosalyn. Piyadasa Sirisena also was the first novelist in the country to produce detective stories. He wrote five of detective novels and one of them "Dingiri Menika" was made into a highly successful film in the mid 1950s . [ 6 ]
