Alliston is a settlement in Simcoe County in the Canadian province of Ontario. It has been part of the Town of New Tecumseth since the 1991 amalgamation of Alliston and nearby villages of Beeton, Tottenham, and the Township of Tecumseth. The primary downtown area is located along Highway 89, known as Victoria Street.
Simcoe County, in particular the former Wendake area near Nottawasaga Bay, was the site of the earliest French exploration and settlement of Ontario; they were the first Europeans in the area.
The municipality was created in 1991 through the amalgamation of the Town of Alliston, the Villages of Beeton and Tottenham, and the Township of Tecumseth. The name 'New Tecumseth' was chosen because a Town of Tecumseh already existed in Essex County.
