The 104-acre (42 ha) Peru State College campus is a prominent feature of the small city of Peru, Nebraska, located approximately 11 miles (18 km) northeast of nearby Auburn, Nebraska, and approximately 70 miles (110 km) south of Omaha, Nebraska.
The college suffered from a lack of funding, high student turnover, and accreditation issues. Ultimately, none of the "Parsons Plan" colleges became economically viable, and all closed by the mid-1970s. Pershing College ceased operating in 1971, and its former site is now occupied by the Beatrice campus of Southeast Community College.
In 1857, settlers founded Peru down the hill from Mount Vernon directly on the Missouri River. In 1861, a Methodist school called Mount Vernon Academy opened. In 1867, the school (which became Peru State College) became the state's first normal school. [4] Floods in the 1860s changed the course of the river, pushing it nearly a mile from Peru.

The season was played from August to November 1990 and culminated in the 1990 NAIA Division II Football National Championship, played in Omaha, Nebraska, near the campus of Peru State College. [1] The Peru State Bobcats defeated two-time defending champion Westminster Titans in the championship game, 17–7, to win their first NAIA national title.
