State Route 226 (SR 226) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. Known as Cox Road, the state highway runs 3.38 miles (5.44 km) from U.S. Route 460 (US 460) near Sutherland east to US 1 and US 460 Business near Petersburg. SR 226 is the old alignment of US 460 in northeastern Dinwiddie County.
Dinwiddie is located in southern Virginia, southwest of the independent city of Petersburg, which separated from the county (and adjacent Prince George County) in 1871.. The Interstate Highway serves Dinwiddie via its partial cloverleaf interchange with SR 703 (Carson Road) just east of the county seat of Dinwiddie County and another pair of rest areas. The Dinwiddie interchange and the following interchange with US 460 (Cox Road) provide access to Virginia Motorsports Park.
The road passes through several small towns that built up at stops along the railroad line. US 460 from I-81 at Christiansburg west to Pikeville, Kentucky, including the piece in West Virginia, is Corridor Q of the Appalachian Development Highway System.
