U.S. Route 49 (US 49) is a north–south United States highway. The highway's northern terminus is in Piggott, Arkansas , at an intersection with U.S. Route 62 (US 62). Its southern terminus is in Gulfport, Mississippi , at an intersection with US 90 .

U.S. Highway 49 Business (US 49B and Hwy. 49B) is a former 5.2-mile (8.4 km) business route of U.S. Route 49 in Craighead County. [ 16 ] The route was created following an Arkansas State Highway Commission request to extend US 49 along Highway 1 between Jonesboro and Piggott. [ 17 ]

The highway heads as a four-lane highway to pass through business districts and cross the Yazoo River before leaving Greenwood and US 49E splits off and heads north. US 49E narrows to 2-lanes and has an intersection with MS 442 before passing through Minter City , where it intersects MS 8 .
