It was constructed in 1940 and donated to St. Charles, and has since served as its seat of local government. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1991.
The St. Charles History Museum is located at 215 East Main Street in St. Charles, Illinois, United States. Originating from the St. Charles Historical Society, founded in 1933, Col. E. J. Baker established a space dedicated to a historical museum in the St. Charles Municipal Building which opened in 1940. [1]
In 1996 two local St. Charles businessmen, Craig Frank and Neil Johnson, purchased the hotel and began a renovation costing a rounded sum of $9,000,000. Hoping to re-establish the tired and worn retirement home back as Hotel Baker, Frank and Johnson spent two years cleaning, furnishing, and upgrading the utilities of the long-neglected property.
