Fultonville was founded around 1824 in anticipation of the opening of the Erie Canal and was incorporated as a village on August 9, 1848. The West Shore Railroad, which was later absorbed into the New York Central system, erected a station in the village in 1889.

Fulton County is a county in the U.S. state of New York.It forms part of the state's Mohawk Valley region.Its county seat is Johnstown. [2] At the 2020 U.S. census, the county had a population of 53,324. [3]

The cemetery was originally the burying ground for the Protestant Dutch Church of Fultonville, but was transferred to the village in 1848. Many influential people in Fultonville's history are buried there. John H. Starin and Thomas R. Horton, United States House of Representatives|U.S. Representatives from New York, are interred there.
Starin died in New York City on March 21, 1909, at his residence on 9 West 38th St. in Manhattan. At his death he was likely the largest individual owner of steamboats, barges and tugboats in the United States. [4] He was interred in The Starin Mausoleum, in Fultonville Cemetery, Fultonville.
