The Gander Mountain in Richmond closed while the Gander Mountain in Fredericksburg is still open. Stores were about 40 miles apart. But BPS and Green Top were too much for the Richmond store so it closed. Filing for bankruptcy will allow the company to reorganize and close some of the unprofitable locations and legally break the leases.
Gander in Middletown, NY is getting there, but the bigger problem is the re-organization, or should I say disorganization of all the stock. For two years you could find things easily because of the logic of putting like-tackle together.
Does anyone know who makes the gander mountain tournament series spinning rods and are they any good? I just picked up a 7' Medium one up for an all-around spinning rod for $60 because it felt more comfortable than a fenwick HMX and was cheaper. Is the HMX a good rod and more worth is than the tournament series to go back and get instead?
The one that looks like the Energy pt sounds like a good deal. It is the top of the line reel, that Gander Mountain has dubbed the "X-Factor" while the other reels, the ones that look like the code are under the GSX label aka g uide s eries extreme. Hey, I just got a gander elite metal spinning reel size 25. It is originally 80 dollars but was on sale for 45. I was wondering if anyone knew who made them and what reel they are comparable to. It has 10 bearings and a carbon fiber sealed drag. The other gander mountain tournament spinning reels...
I saw the Gander Mountain Myth on sale. I was wondering if this is a good combo or what you guys think about it. It was a good deal but I am just a little leery 7' Medium Heavy
I bought a Gander Mountain GSX Tournament casting rod not too long ago because they were on sale for $50 when they're usually $100 (they still are). I really, really like the rod and am thinking about switching my whole arsenal to these rods.
Having worked at gander mountain I would steer clear of the vortex reels. I have taken some put of the package that were missing screws. Gander mountain by me has daiwa lagunas on sale for 29.99, I picked a couple up and they feel decent for the money.
Gander Mountain, like Bass Pro, make their own rods. It is more expensive to have a U.S. based rod manufacturer make a blank and rod. BPS and Gander mountain designed what they wanted, and went to a chinese factory that would replicate what they want at the best price.
Who makes the Gander Mountain brand rods? I was at my local Gander and noticed a really nice casting rod and would like to know the blank origin. The rod is their top of the line casting model...called Titanium Series or something like that. The rod has a Fuji soft touch ECS reel seat and Fuji SiC guides.
