Just bought some furniture from sleepy's, and I am wondering if I should tip the delivery guys when they come. If so, what would be a reasonable amount? My two delivery orders are in the amount of $500 and $1100, respectively, and the delivery fee was an additional $80 for both orders. Does the 10% rule still apply? Thanks much.
With that said, I tip new furniture delivery $0, and 20%+ at restaurants. It is part of their job to carry things up the steps and not to break anything. In the rare case where they go out of their way to do something special, I will give them some money (like if they take the trash away even though it was not part of the service).
I generally tip $10-$20 for furniture delivery. One time left money with gf for delivery while I was at work. The driver came and wanted $20 for "2nd story delivery", well that was his tip. I generally tip pizza delivery @15-20% along with wait staff.
I am moving into a new apartment in Arlington this weekend. I hired Beltway Movers to send 2 guys with a truck to move my stuff (short move from Fals Church to Arlington, not a lot of stuff). I also bought new furniture that is being delivered to the new place the same day. The furniture delivery guys will set up/assemble the furniture.
I paid the furniture store $189 for delivery. My question is whether it is a norm to tip furniture delivery guys if you have paid a delivery fee. I know for pizza delivery, you need to tip even if the store charges a delivery fee because most of the delivery fee goes to the store, not the pizza delivery guy. But this is furniture, not pizza.

If you tip a delivery person, especially while they are carrying something, you might make them fall over all the way. They might not appreciate that How much do you tip furniture delivery guys - New Jersey (NJ) - Page 9 - City-Data Forum
Depends. If they do what they suppose to do, then I tip them some money. I once order beds and mattresses and they delivered the wrong bed frame, and took them two more delivery to got it right. Needless to say, they get no tips.
No, and I'll explain why. When your pizza guy delivers a pizza and you tip 15% it's maybe $3.75 on a $25 pizza. When you get your $3,200 refrigerator delivered, 15% tip would be $480! Less than 15% tip is an insult, and I prefer not to insult my appliance delivery guys.
