Devils Island Wildlife Management Area is managed as public access for hunting. It is managed, coterminously with the Union County State Fish and Wildlife Area, by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources from a full-time office in nearby Jonesboro. [1] The park is made up of bottomland, hardwood forest lands, and agricultural fields.
From that time to 1975, the area was used primarily by hunters and unmanaged day use. The Division of Land Management took over the area in 1976 and since then, extensive upgrading of facilities has occurred. In recent years, more than 350,000 people annually visit Des Plaines—an area of over 5,000 acres, with approximately 200 acres of water.
[2] [3] The park is located in Kendall County, Illinois, five miles (8.0 km) west of the city of Yorkville. Since the original acquisition in 1969, 100 acres (40 ha) have been added to the park [2] Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area was one of five new state parks opened in northern Illinois from 1969–1971.
The state of Illinois acquired 860 acres (350 ha) of the area in and around Napoleon Hollow in 1970, dedicating the land to hunting as the Pike County Conservation Area. The conservation area was enlarged by a further 280 acres (110 ha) in 1988.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources acquired "Site M" in June 1993, and the acquisition became the largest portion of what was renamed the Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area (JEPC) in 2001. The site was named in honor of Jim Edgar, governor of Illinois in 1991-1999.
Green River State Wildlife Area is an Illinois state park on 2,565 acres (1,038 ha) in Lee County, Illinois, United States. This wildlife restoration area was acquired by the State of Illinois in 1940, using funds from the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act. It is frequented by hunters, hikers, birders and other outdoor enthusiasts.
