This sub-template returns the associated country's CPI for a specific year. It is used by {{Inflation/US}} for calculating the inflation rate between two given years, which in turn is used by {{}} to calculate inflated values.
This only works for years that the inflation template has figures for. This usually doesn't go up to the current year (for example, if you add the template in 2023, it might give figures for 2020 or something). This is not a bug; see Template:Inflation/year. It takes some amount of time for inflation figures to be calculated and made public.
Do not assume that using this template will mean that a calculated value is "current", "as of 2024", "as of 2023" or even necessarily "recent".Per MOS:REALTIME, statements made using this template should either specify an end_year, or rely on |fmt=eq or {{Inflation/year}} to automatically indicate the latest year this template provides an inflation calculation.
