The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, often referred to as CESJDS or JDS, is a private, pluralistic Jewish JK-12 school located on two campuses in North Bethesda (Rockville postal address), Maryland, United States. [4] [5] Founded in 1966, the school's namesake is Charles E. Smith, [6] a local Jewish philanthropist and real estate magnate.
The school for white students was renamed Richard Montgomery High School (after a Major General Richard Montgomery, who had been a slave holder [5] [6]) to distinguish between the two in 1935. [7] After a fire destroyed the old high school building in 1940, the building was rebuilt on the current site in 1942, measuring 49,167 sq ft (4,567.8 m 2).
The Old Rockville High School and East School are a pair of historic former school buildings at School and Park Streets in the Rockville section of Vernon, Connecticut.Built in 1892 and 1870 respectively, the two buildings are good examples of late 19th-century school architecture, and the former high school is a particularly good example of Richardsonian Romanesque design.
